Various abbreviations and definitions used within the Domain Names section:
- Registry: The entity that decides and records which domain names are registered within its authority, which may be a single TLD or SLD, or multiple TLDs/SLDs. The registry typically does not communicate with the regular user.
- Registrar: A registrar provides registration facilities, typically for many TLDs/SLDs and across multiple registries. They can provide their services to regular users and RSPs, however they do deal in large numbers of domains and therefore their support for individual customers may be lacking.
- RSP: A Registration Service Provider, who is often a smaller business enterprise and can provide more customised customer support. RSPs can leverage the registration facilities of one or more Registrars.
- TLD: Top Level Domain - the last part of a domain name, such as .com
- SLD: Second Level Domain - the last 2 parts of a domain name, such as .com.au
