This is a small implementation of VoIP, especially suitable for a Small Business scenario.
The minimum for most small businesses would be a dedicated VoIP PABX unit. There are many configurations of these dedicated boxes, varying by:
- Number and type of exchange connectivity: Includes no connection, standard PSTN lines, ISDN2 and E1 (also called ISDN10, ISDN20 and ISDN30);
- Number of standard telephone ports;
- Number of configurable extensions: usually between 4 and 16;
- Enhanced features; and
- Expandability.
Most of these dedicated boxes do provide: Voicemail, Ring Groups, Automated Messages, Call Diversions, and many more typical PABX functions. However, due to their standard configurations and limited expandability, it is necessary to examine the requirement in significant depth, otherwise it is very easy to make a poor purchasing choice which may necessitate complete replacement at a later date when the initial system is not capable of some functionality, connectivity or number of extensions.
Costs:
Initial setup costs can vary significantly, starting at approx $500 to $1000 for the dedicated box, and approx $60 to $200 per telephone.
Ongoing costs would be the normal PSTN telephone company line costs, plus any incoming VoIP telephone services (at usually around $10 per service).
